What cabinet refinishing actually involves
Cabinet refinishing means we keep your existing boxes and give every visible surface a new sprayed finish. All doors, drawer fronts and hardware come off and get numbered first. Doors and drawer fronts are sprayed off-site in a dust-controlled area; the boxes and face frames stay in your kitchen, fully masked, and get finished in place. That's why your kitchen stays usable for most of the job — the boxes never leave.
Prep is where cabinet jobs are won or lost. We degrease heavily before anything else, because the doors above the stove are the ones that fail first when that step gets skipped. Then comes mechanical sanding to profile the surface so primer can anchor, followed by a high-grip bonding primer with a tannin blocker for oak and other open-grain woods.
The finish is two to three coats of urethane or acrylic-alkyd cabinet enamel applied with HVLP or fine-finish airless equipment — cabinet enamel, not wall paint. Wall paint on cabinets stays soft, blocks against the frame and chips at the edges within a season of normal cooking. We also sand between coats and repair chipped edges before priming.
Curing is the step homeowners underestimate most. The enamel is dry to the touch long before it reaches full hardness, so we give it real cure time before rehanging, then reinstall doors, align hinges, adjust the swing and clean up. Optional add-ons: new hardware, crown molding or light rail.

Heavy degreasing first
Cooking grease is invisible and it kills adhesion. The doors over the range are the first to peel when this step is rushed.
Tannin-blocking bonding primer
Oak and other open-grain woods bleed tannin through light colors. The primer we use grips the sanded surface and blocks that bleed.
Sprayed, not brushed
HVLP or fine-finish airless on doors and drawer fronts in a dust-controlled space — no brush marks, no roller stipple on flat panels.
Your kitchen stays usable
Boxes and frames are finished in place, so you keep your shelves and counters through most of the 5 to 7 working days. Only the doors are gone.
Real cure time
Urethane and acrylic-alkyd enamels harden over days, not hours. We let the finish cure before rehanging instead of handing back soft doors.
Numbered, rehung and aligned
Every door and drawer front goes back exactly where it came from, with hinges adjusted so the doors sit even and close clean.

Refinishing is the right call when your cabinet boxes are structurally sound and the layout already works. It fits the oak and maple kitchens built through the 1990s and 2000s across Aurora, Centennial and Parker, homeowners getting a house ready to list, and investors or rental managers who need a kitchen to show well without a full remodel.
It's the wrong call in three situations, and we'll tell you so before you spend money. Melamine or thermofoil doors that are peeling or swollen from water won't hold a coating.
